Many of our patients have questions about how orthodontic treatment will impact their lives. If you do not see your question below, please contact us and we'll be glad to help!

Will I be able to play sports with braces?

Absolutely! However, we recommend that patients protect their smiles by wearing mouthguards when they are participating in any sport. We can provide orthodontic mouthguards that are comfortable and come in a variety of colors and designs.

Will I be able to play a musical instrument?

Yes! There is usually an initial period of adjustment when you first get your braces. We can provide you with orthodontic wax to ease the adjustment.

Are retainers necessary? How long do I have to wear them?

Retainers are necessary. After your braces are removed, the retainer keeps your teeth from moving while the bone around your teeth hardens and stabilizes. The longer you wear your retainer, the better chance you have of your teeth remaining in alignment.

When should orthodontic treatment begin?

Orthodontic treatment can be started at any age. However, many orthodontic problems are easier to correct at a younger age since the jaw is still growing.

Am I too old for orthodontics?

Absolutely not! As long as your supporting bone and gums are healthy, we can help correct any problems.

Why should I have an orthodontist straighten my teeth?

An orthodontist has completed two to three more years of advanced education beyond the four years required of a dental doctoral degree. The additional schooling qualifies an orthodontist as a specialist in dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of problems related to the growth and development of the teeth and jaws.
